Upholstery Cleaning in NYC

Sofas and chairs collect the same dust, oils and spills as rugs, but are cleaned in your home. We test each fabric first and choose a method that cleans thoroughly without shrinking, browning or fading.

Fabric first

Upholstery covers everything from durable synthetics to linen, cotton, wool, velvet and silk blends. Each tolerates moisture and agitation differently. Before cleaning, we check the manufacturer's code where there is one, test for colorfastness and shrinkage in a hidden spot, and look at the filling and frame.

Low-moisture cleaning

Natural fibers like linen and cotton are prone to browning and shrinkage if over-wetted. We use controlled, low-moisture methods and dry them quickly.

Hot water extraction

Durable fabrics can take a deeper extraction clean, which removes embedded soil and body oils from arms and headrests.

Spot and stain treatment

Spills and marks are pre-treated with products matched to the stain and the fabric.

What we clean

Sofas, sectionals, armchairs, dining chairs, ottomans, headboards and cushions. Leather and heavily antique pieces are assessed individually. If a fabric cannot be cleaned safely, we will tell you rather than risk it.

Caring for upholstery between cleanings

Body oils on arms and headrests are the main cause of graying, so a light vacuum with an upholstery brush every week or two makes a real difference. Rotate and flip loose cushions so they wear evenly, and keep fine fabrics out of strong afternoon sun, which fades linen, silk and velvet quickly.

For spills, blot with a clean white cloth and plain water and avoid rubbing, which can spread the stain and distort the pile on velvet. Most households find a professional clean every year or two keeps furniture looking fresh, and more often with pets or young children.
