Rug Cleaning in Tribeca
Tribeca's converted warehouse lofts call for big rugs. Room-size pieces of twelve by eighteen feet and larger are common, often contemporary hand-knotted designs sitting alongside an antique or two. We handle large rugs routinely, from rolling and carrying to washing and drying them flat.

How pickup works in Tribeca
Most Tribeca lofts have a freight elevator, sometimes operated by the building and sometimes key-operated by residents. Let us know how yours works and the times it is available. We bring enough people to move a large rug safely, roll it on a tube where needed, and protect the elevator and floors.
Cleaning very large rugs
Oversize rugs are heavy, especially wet, and they need space to wash and dry evenly. In the workshop we can lay them flat, dust them thoroughly from the back, wash and rinse the whole surface at once, and dry them without folding. That even treatment is what prevents water lines and uneven color on a large field.
Contemporary and Tibetan rugs
Many loft rugs are modern hand-knotted pieces, often Tibetan-weave rugs from Nepal in wool and silk, or designer rugs with large areas of a single color. Plain fields show every mark, and silk accents need cooler water and careful drying. We test both wool and silk before washing and groom the pile so the surface reads evenly.
Antiques in the same space are cleaned with the methods suited to their age and dyes, which are often quite different.
Large rugs need a good pad
A room-size rug on a polished concrete or wide-plank floor shifts and creases with every chair pulled out. A quality felt-and-rubber pad, cut slightly smaller than the rug, holds it in place, cushions the foundation and reduces wear. Ripples in large rugs are also common after years in a loft with big temperature swings. If yours no longer lies flat, it can be blocked on a frame after washing, and we will tell you at inspection whether that would help.
FAQ
Questions from Tribeca
Can you clean a 12 by 18 foot rug?
Yes. Large rugs are washed and dried flat in the workshop.
My loft rug is wool and silk. Is that a problem?
No. We test both fibers and adjust water temperature and drying for the silk.
How do you get a large rug out of a loft?
We roll and wrap it in place and use the freight elevator during the window your building allows.
