Rug Cleaning on the Upper East Side
Upper East Side apartments are often home to rugs with a long history: Persian city rugs bought decades ago, antiques inherited from family, pieces collected with real knowledge. We collect them, wash and restore them in our Brooklyn workshop, and return them ready for the room.

Heirlooms and collected rugs
Many of the rugs we see from this part of Manhattan are finely knotted Tabriz, Kashan and Sarouk pieces, or antique village and tribal rugs that have been in the same family for generations. They tend to be in rooms that are well kept but used, and the most common needs are a careful wash, secured fringe and attention to edges worn by furniture and vacuums.
For collectors, we take a conservative approach. We stabilize rather than replace, and we explain any repair that would change the character of an antique before doing it.
How pickup works in Upper East Side
Prewar co-ops along Park and Fifth Avenues and the side streets between them usually have firm rules: service entrance only, set hours for deliveries, and a booked window for the freight elevator. Tell us your building's rules when you book and we plan the pickup around them.
Our team rolls and wraps each rug in the apartment, protects floors and doorways, and carries it out through the service route. On return, we unroll the rug, place it, and can lay a new pad if you need one.
Before the summer move
Many households leave the city for part of the summer. That is a natural moment to send rugs out: they can be cleaned and mothproofed, and if you like, we can time the return for when you are back in the city. Rugs left rolled in a closed apartment through a warm summer are where we most often find moth damage, so a wash beforehand is worth considering.
Protecting rugs in formal rooms
Rugs in living and dining rooms that are used mostly for entertaining still collect fine dust, and they tend to sit in strong window light. Turning them each year evens out fading. Under heavy furniture, rugs develop crush marks and are a favorite place for moths, so it is worth lifting the edges and checking from time to time. A wash every couple of years, with mothproofing if you wish, keeps fine wool soft and protected.
